This three credit hour† CE self-paced course is introduced by providing a brief video overview on microscope assistive devices. This course will expand your knowledge of the optical, prescriptive and functional characteristics of the low vision microscope. Video examples are shown. Optional tutorials are also included that provide drill-downs of terminology that is used.
The course is divided into 5 lectures.
Robert W. Massof, Ph.D., begins by defining and explaining the theory of and practical application of the technology of the low vision microscope. Dr. Massof is currently a Professor of Ophthalmology, Director of the Lions Vision Research and Rehabilitation Center, Wilmer Eye Institute at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
The second lecture is narrated by Suleiman Alibhai, O.D., Instructor of Ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Alibhai teaches clinicians how to evaluate and fit a patient for a microscope.
Mr. James T. Deremeik, M.A., CLVT, demonstrates the techniques and strategies used to train the low vision patient on how to use microscopes in the third lecture. Strategies such as showing the patient how to establish and maintain the proper focal point are also demonstrated. Mr. Deremeik is the Director of Education, Lions Vision Research and Rehabilitation Center, Wilmer Eye Institute at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
The final lecture series of this course is presented by Lori L. Grover, O.D., Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology, Lions Vision Research and Rehabilitation Center, Wilmer Eye Institute at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Grover provides a detailed practical review of microscope products and services offered by different companies.
