This 6 credit hour course, available now, is authored by Gordon Dutton M.D., a pediatric ophthalmologist from Glasgow, Scotland. Dr. Dutton provides students with theory and practical application from his expertise as a clinician working with children with a diagnosis of CVI and their families. The course entitled Cerebral Visual Impairment in Children: A Practical Approach is an online course consisting of 9 lectures divided into 3 topic areas:

•   Human visual system and how it works
•   Disorders of vision related to CVI
•   Strategies to help children with vision disorders due to CVI

The first section will discuss the anatomy of the eye, the visual pathways, and the reception of the visual information by the brain. The difference between Ventral and Dorsal Stream Processing will also be discussed.

The second section will explain CVI in further detail, highlighting the causes and the various visual difficulties related to CVI. Cerebral Visual Impairment in children has many social implications that affect their lives. These must be addressed and understood before help can be provided.

The final section includes strategies for teachers, parents, and clinicians to use for helping children concentrate in the classroom, read and write, move their limbs, and organize possessions.
